JetBlue Founder Raising Money For Moxy

Looking To Establish A New Low-Cost Carrier

A new low-cost airline flying Bombardier CS300 airliners may be in service by 2020. JetBlue founder David Neeleman is reportedly raising money to launch the low-cost airline that would connect major cities operating from smaller, secondary airports.

Neeleman's goal is to raise $100 million in startup capital for "Moxy", according to a report from Airline Weekly via Business Insider.

The carrier has already placed orders for 60 CS300 airliners. The anticipate that all of the airplanes will be delivered by 2024.

The business model for Moxy focuses on operations from smaller airports where the costs are lower than the major hubs. Some of those airports have been identified as Steward and Republic airports near New York City, as well as airports in Gary, IN and Milwaukee that would serve passengers from Chicago. Baltimore, MD and Trenton, NJ are also under consideration.

Neeleman, a Brazilian-American entrepreneur, is no stranger to start-up airlines. Over the past 30 years, he helped found Morris Air, which was acquired by Southwest, WestJet, JetBlue and Azul. He is also an executive with TAP, the national carrier of Portugal.
