Bird In Cockpit Delays Delta Flight

Flight Eventually Forced To Return To Detroit Airport

A Delta flight scheduled from Detroit to Atlanta over the weekend was first delayed, and then forced to return to Detroit when a bird was found in the cockpit of the airplane.

Fox News reports that the the sparrow got into the plane while it was at the gate during boarding. It found its way to the cockpit, where the captain became aware of its presence.

A maintenance crew was called in to look for the bird, and did for more than an hour. But they were unable to locate it. The crew initially thought there would have to be an equipment swap, but eventually the plane was cleared for flight, and departed an hour behind schedule.

Then, about an hour into the flight, the captain of the plane got on the intercom to explain to the passengers that he was returning to Detroit because of bird in the cockpit "was going a little nuts".

Once back in the Motor City, the bird was safely removed from the cockpit and the plane finally made it to Atlanta hours late. Several passengers missed connections and were forced to re-book their flights.
