Aero-News Alert: One Known Fatality In OSH Taxiway Accident

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 1400 EDT: Aero-News has learned there is one confirmed dead in an accident on the ground at Wittman Field Sunday afternoon, where a Grumman TBM Avenger taxiied into an RV aircraft ahead of it on the taxiway.

The accident occurred approximately 200 yards northeast of the control tower at Oshkosh, during the last day of AirVenture 2006 and what is traditionally the busiest day for departures from Wittman Field.

The EAA reports two people were onboard the Canadian-registered RV, with the other person sustaining unknown... but apparently non-life-threatening... injuries. The type of RV is not yet known, nor is it is clear if the plane had a tandem, or side-by-side, seating arrangement.

Crews on the scene say the TBM's propeller struck the RV's vertical stabilizer, and cut into the smaller plane's fuselage.

The NTSB has been called out to investigate the mishap. ANN will have more on this story as information becomes available.
