Sporty's Updates Sport Pilot Course

Improved, Expanded, and Modernized Ground School Revised for 2022

Sporty's continues to go through and revise their online courses, this time allowing future LSA pilots to learn the ropes and save money on ground time for their Sport Pilot License.

Like the other courses in recent months, Sporty's has updated things with new video, handy tools, and a support for a wider roster of platforms. The time is right, with a number of new additions and prospective sportplane owners hooked by the new generation of affordable, modern aircraft coming out every month. Between interesting attention grabbers like the Icon A5, the increased fascination with lightweight, backcountry flyers has built a good amount of interest among those formerly outside of aviation. Sport piloting is a cheaper way to break into flying for fun and learning the ropes, and Sporty's has addressed those needs with a full-featured learning course aimed at getting a zero-time student ready for action.

Like other Sporty's updates, the course receives the same suite of study tools, test preparation, and video assistance found in their commercial, private, and CFI courses, in addition to a roster of topics that may not make their way into the traditional sport pilot lesson plan. Real-world topics like ForeFlight integration, glass cockpit tips, ADS-B utility, and modern weather resources have been added as a part of the modernization, with more than a dozen full video segments walking students through the topics just like they would for ground school - without the hourly cost. Test prep for the written is included, and frequently updated for accuracy, with an automatic test endorsement from the course once the student is prepared.

“With the boom in backcountry flying and LSA kitplanes, we’ve seen renewed interest in Sport Pilot training,” said Sporty’s Academy Vice President Bret Koebbe. “Our latest update makes Sporty’s course an all-in-one training solution for anyone pursuing this exciting part of general aviation.”

"Our Sport Pilot Course is included with Sporty's comprehensive Learn to Fly Course, which also includes Private Pilot training,” said Koebbe. “This provides the flexibility to continue on to a Private Pilot certificate at a later time in the same course—at no additional cost.”
