Lindbergh Foundation To Celebrate 90th Anniversary Of Trans-Atlantic Flight

Exclusive Black-Tie Event Will He Held To Mark The Milestone

The Lindbergh Foundation, which developed the Air Shepherd program to protect elephants and rhinos from poaching by using drones, today announced an upcoming celebration of the 90th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s first solo transatlantic flight. The event, taking place on May 20th, also marks the 40th anniversary of the foundation created to continue the vision of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh.

The momentous gathering will be held at The Explorers Club in New York, where the Lindbergh Foundation was created decades after the epic New York-to-Paris flight. Sir Edmund Hillary, General James H. Doolittle and astronaut Neil Armstrong led the national campaign to establish the foundation, with the intent to sustain the Lindberghs’ pioneering interest in aviation, technology and conservation.

Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh and their profound contributions to the modern age of aviation will be the focus of the night along with the Lindbergh Foundation’s support of the advanced application of specialized electric aircraft to reduce poaching, as well as the future of revolutionary electric-powered aviation.

As part of this memorable event, the Lindbergh Foundation will recognize:

  • Anousheh Ansari, the first female civilian astronaut, international Space Ambassador, businesswoman and philanthropist who will be presented with the Anne Morrow Lindbergh award. Ansari recently accepted the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film The Salesman on behalf of Asghar Farhadi, who did not attend the awards ceremony in protest of the U.S. travel ban.
  • Air Shepherd’s anti-poaching drone program designed to end the existential threat to Africa’s rhinos and elephants.
  • Ongoing innovations in clean, quiet, electric aircraft as a viable means of transportation
  • Significant contributions by those who effectively balance technology and the environment.

“This is a momentous occasion and we are thrilled to share this evening with others dedicated to Charles and Anne Lindberghs’ vision of balancing technological advancements with preservation,” said John Petersen, chairman of the board of the Lindbergh Foundation.

The Lindbergh Foundation’s Air Shepherd program is proving to be highly effective with drone teams flying in South Africa, Malawi, Botswana and Zimbabwe. UAV and Drone Solutions, Lindbergh Foundation’s principal partner, operates Air Shepherd drones at night when poachers are active—making it one of the most successful operations to combat poaching.
