Forty-Three Were Aboard The ATR-72 When It Went Down

An ATR-72 reportedly went down in Siberia Monday, resulting in the fatal injury of 31 of the 43 people on board. The 12 who survived are reported to be hospitalized in serious condition.

The aircraft, operated by UTair, was enroute to the town of Surgut at the time of the accident, according to the Associated Press. The airplane went down in a snow-covered field shortly after takeoff from Tyumen, located about 1,000 miles east of Moscow.

All of those on board appeared to be Russian nationals, according to documents supplied by UTair. The cause of the accident is under investigation. (Similar aircraft from file photo)
