AeroSports Update: New Book From Burke Mees!

Notes on the Tailwheel Checkout and an Introduction to Ski Flying… It’s A Long Title But You’ll Find Great Information

Specialized flying is fun and challenging, and it’s a good idea to know what you are getting into before training begins. The AeroSports tip for today is if you’re thinking of getting a taildragger check-out or taking advantage of the winter snow, this new book may be just the right starting place.

Notes on the Tailwheel Checkout and an Introduction to Ski Flying covers the basics for both the tailwheel and ski plane ratings. Author Burke Mees provides valuable commentary on the finer points of flying these special types of aircraft, and insights about the learning process that will help prepare students for flight training in these airplanes.

In the northern latitudes, an initial tailwheel checkout is often followed up with a ski checkout because many pilots fly a tailwheel in the summer and then put the same airplane on skis in the winter. In this book, the author's two decades of experience flying and flight instructing in tailwheel airplanes and skiplanes proves useful not only to the beginner making this transition, but also to the pilot or instructor already flying them. Also covered are advanced topics such as flying multi-engine tailwheel airplanes and ski-flying on glaciers.

Softcover, 7-1/4" x 9", 112 pages. Also available in PDF and ePub formats, and soon for Kindle and iBooks. Burke Mees is also the author of Notes of a Seaplane Instructor; look for his new book at your local pilot shop or online.
