APS Adds Third SIAI-Marchetti S211 to Upset Training Fleet

Additional Aircraft Supports Increased Demand for UPRT

Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) has increased its training capabilities by incorporating a third SIAI-Marchetti S211 into its fleet. This expansion meets the rising need for Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) in an effort to reduce Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) fatalities.

Designed to provide realistic upset recovery scenarios, the APS S211 jet training program has been given the works -- glass cockpit displays, digital angle of attack indicators, multi-axis autopilot, high-altitude stall training, and hooded instrument upset recovery exercises. Pilots can also adjust flight control feel in-flight, allowing them to experience handling characteristics similar to those in modern business jets.

This update aligns with APS’s Every Pilot in Control UPRT Mastery Program, which introduces a structured training model with progressively advanced skill levels. The program blends on-aircraft instruction, simulator exercises, classroom teaching, and virtual reality training to ensure pilots develop measurable expertise in upset prevention and recovery. Participants advance through Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum certification levels.

“The addition of our third S211 jet is more than fleet expansion—it is a commitment to delivering the most effective jet upset training available,” expressed APS CEO Paul Ransbury. “With the introduction of the Every Pilot in Control UPRT Mastery Program, APS graduates are not just trained; they achieve a clearly defined level of mastery in critical upset prevention and recovery skills.”

APS’s upset and recovery courses aim to mitigate one of the most complex and lethal aviation occurrences: Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I). Though this type of accident is relatively uncommon, nearly 93% of LOC-I events result in hull losses and 90% lead to fatalities.

The SIAI-Marchetti S211, APS’s jet trainer of choice, is a two-seat turbofan-powered aircraft that began military service in the 1980s. Its proven safety record has made the jet popular in training settings, including with the Philippine Air Force and Singapore Air Force.
