Cargo Plane Down In Afghanistan

All Six On Board Lost

Coalition forces Tuesday found a CASA 212 contract freighter that went down in the rugged mountains of central Afghanistan. The aircraft had been missing since Sunday.

Search teams found the bodies of all six people on board -- three passengers and a crew of three.

"They found pieces of the engine and the wheels scattered on top of Baba Mountain," said Senior Police Officer Ghulam Mohammed, quoted by the Associated Press. Baba Mountain is a 16,600 foot tall peak nestled in the heart of the Hindu Kush Mountains. The wreckage was covered in fresh snow, he said.

The CASA 212 was reportedly operated by Presidential Airways, based in Florida. It was flying under contract with the US Air Force, according to a military spokesman at Bagram Airbase.
