Airborne 04.21.21: SnF Wins-OSH Next?, MARS Ingenuity, NX Cub Defies Skeptics

Also: ANN's SNFDD21 MVP, Panthera Goes Public, Zefhir Helicopter, True Blue Power Ups Game!

What a successful Sun n Fun Aero Space Expo! The first major aviation event in over a year is in the books...

Though the numbers are still being tabulated, Sun ‘n Fun Boss Lites Leenhouts declared Saturday the best ever for that day and predicted a strong possibility that SnF21 would break all previous records for the week. Based on what we saw, we  agree. Monday, NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter became the first aircraft in history to make a powered, controlled flight on another planet. The Ingenuity team at JPL confirmed the flight succeeded after receiving data from the helicopter via NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover at 0646 EDT. ANN’s Jim Campbell will be among the first to tell you that he is an unrepentant taildragger aficionado. So much so, that when CubCrafters announced a nosewheel version of their here-tofore positively-reviewed X CUB, he really had little interest in the project. Advance buzz, though, was intriguing, and he decided to give it a try. During SnF21, Jim climbed aboard an NX Cub at South Lakeland airport early Saturday on a drizzly, overcast morning with CubCrafters’s Brad Damm and 3/4 fuel, and was blown away. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
