AD: Airbus Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2018-07-12

PRODUCT: All Airbus Model A350-941 airplanes.

ACTION: : Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY: This AD requires performing repetitive station position pick-off unit (SPPU) calibration tests, and applying the corresponding airplane fault isolation if necessary.

This AD was prompted by a report indicating malfunctions of the SPPU and failures of the internal wiring due to water ingress via certain electrical connectors, inducing subsequent icing during flight.

DATES: This AD becomes effective April 24, 2018. Comments must be received by May 24, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 6 airplanes of U.S. registry. The cost of compliance is estimated as follows:

  • SPPU calibration test: 2 work-hours × $85 per hour = $170 per test cycle.
