Planes Of Fame 'Airshow 2003' Features Flying By Modern, Historic Aircraft

Aerobatics and Fly-Bys

Famous aircraft from the first 100 years of flight take to the skies over Southern California's Chino Airport on May 17 and 18, as the Air Museum "Planes of Fame" hosts the century salute with visiting aircraft as well as its own rare collection during Air Show 2003.

The United States Air Force's F-16 Demo Team will perform and take part in a Heritage Flight featuring World War II piston-engined aircraft, a rare sight. Equally rare, the United States Navy will perform its Tailhook Legacy Flight, and fly its F-18 Super Hornet in formation with a World War II Naval fighter.

Civilian Acts As Well

There will also be aerobatics including Rob Harrison and his Zlin 50 "Tumbling Bear," and direct from England, Stephen Grey will perform aerobatics with the Museum's Grumman F8F Bearcat, a Navy fighter. Silver Wings Stearman Wing Walker and Aerobatics will be performing as will Robin Scott's Yak 52 "From Russia with Love" and Red Bull's MiG 17 Russian jet fighter aerobatics with performer Bill Reeseman at the controls.

The Air Museum's own collection of past-century survivors will take part in the show, including the Planes of Fame's Northrop N9M-B flying wing, forerunner to the modern Northrop B-2A Spirit stealth bomber, and the Museum's Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero fighter, which was greatly feared in South Pacific skies during much of World War II.
