Airborne-Flight Training 11.04.20: Navy StandDown, Rich Stowell, Skyborne

Also: Sporty's Intro's Latest Learn to Fly, ASA Pilot Training Kits, Vaughn College, Convertible ALSIM

Last week was a tough week for Naval aviation... Vice Adm. Kenneth White-sell, Commander, Naval Air Forces, directed all non-deployed U.S. Navy aviation units to conduct a safety stand down Oct. 26.

This stand down provides an opportunity for aviation commands to focus on how to further improve operational risk management and risk mitigation across the Naval Aviation enterprise. This safety stand down follows an F/A-18E Super Hornet crash near Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake on Oct. 20, in which the pilot ejected safely, and a T-6B Texan 2 crash in Foley, Alabama, on Oct. 23, in which the two-person aircrew did not survive. No civilians were injured as a result of either incident. Rich Stowell Consulting recently released “Emily Flies the Tumblewing,” an aviation-themed Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) teaching unit. Designed with formal and informal educators in mind, it explores the essential question, “What's the difference between falling and flying?” According to unit creator Rich Stowell, “Growing and feeding our STEM workforce pipeline requires sowing the seeds of STEM before youths reach high school.” Stowell, a nationally-recognized Master Flight Instructor. Skyborne Airline Academy trainees will now be able to complete an undergraduate honours degree during their pilot studies, thanks to a new partnership with the University of West London (UWL). The integrated degree provides students with the opportunity to complete a Bachelors Of Science with honors in Aviation Management with Commercial Pilot Training at the same time as their Skyborne EASA/UKCAA Integrated or Combined Modular ATPL programme (MEP, CPL, IR and APS MCC). All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
