Classic Aero-TV: The Mosquito Helicopter - Not Much Bigger Than Some R/C Models!

From 2016 (YouTube Version): Proof That Good Things Do Come in Small Packages...

When the Academy of model Aeronautics held its AMA Expo 2016, one would assume that the Expo dealt only with model aircraft. But when ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, took a look at what was there, he also found an aircraft that expanded model technology to carry a person aloft.

In this video Jim talks with, Joseph Aletky, who is an Unmanned Systems Instructor for Rotor F/X. The aircraft they’re talking about is a single place, very light-weight, personal manned helicopter, and it’s called the ‘Mosquito.’

Aletky likened building this kit helicopter to building a model version except that the parts are bigger which makes it easier. In the video Aletky describes the construction and provides information regarding the power plant. Jim expressed a concern for training in a single place helicopter, and Aletky explains how they get it done.

The kit can be built either as an ultralight or an experimental aircraft. The ultralight is limited by the regulations to no more than five gallons of fuel while the experimental version does not carry that restriction.

As the conversation progresses you’ll view lots of video of the mosquito in action, and you’ll probably agree that it wasn’t out of place at the AMA Expo 2016.
