'We Looked Around, And Nobody Was There'

Obama Charter Lands At Wrong IA Airport

Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama is used to being greeted by crowds wherever he goes... which made his arrival Tuesday night in Des Moines, IA a bit disquieting.

No one was waiting at the airport to greet his chartered plane -- but it turns out there was a good reason for that. Obama was supposed to land in Cedar Rapids, about 100 miles east of the city.

"We just seemed to overshoot the runway by about 150 miles apparently," Obama quipped Wednesday during a campaign stop in Wapello. "We were just curious -- usually the Secret Service pulls their cars up real quickly, and we looked around and nobody was there."

It is unclear whether the aircraft was dispatched to the wrong city by the charter operator, or if the pilot entered the wrong 'Direct-To' destination into the GPS, or what.

Campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor told Fox News the unplanned Des Moines stop put Obama behind schedule by about an hour.

Those waiting to hear the Illinois senator speak didn't complain, though. While they waited, they took to 'dancing and chanting,' according to news reports.
