Events Are Planned For September 12-18
Following what AIA says was the resounding success of the
first-ever National Aerospace Day last year, the Aerospace
Industries Association is expanding the activities this year during
National Aerospace Week, September 12-18.
The aerospace and defense industry contributes to American
economic vitality, national security, trade and technological
superiority. Hundreds of thousands of industry workers across the
country are keeping the United States strong and competitive. The
industry serves as a wellspring of innovation leading to
extraordinary advances in technology, exploration and environmental
stewardship.
"Together let's use National Aerospace Week as an opportunity to
remind our citizens and elected officials that we are 'the Strength
to Lift America,'" said Marion C. Blakey, president and CEO of AIA.
"We want to encourage all aerospace employees and supporters,
elected officials and aerospace-related organizations and
educational institutions to participate in this national
celebration."

According to AIA, the aerospace and defense industry employs
817,000 workers directly, supporting more than 2 million
middle-class jobs in related fields. There are also 30,000
suppliers to the industry across all 50 states.
A series of events in Washington, D.C. and across the country
are being planned. New research reports, contests for youth and
other events hosted by businesses and communities across the
country will showcase the industry's role in the future high-tech
workforce of America and in creating and sustaining high-paying
jobs across the country.
