Airborne 01.06.21: Save Dillingham!, 100th PC-24, DeLand ‘Flyway To Highway’

Also: B-29 Doc July Tour, Educational UAS Protections, Teledyne Acquires FLIR, Wheels Up

We've heard the story before... a great airport is under attack by the powers that be... The latest variant of the story comes from Hawaii, where a popular airport known for extensive GA and skydiving activity is under the gun.

Dillingham Airfield is Hawaii’s most versatile airport and home to a variety of sky-related activities. It is located on the North Shore of Oahu and the only public use airport on the northern part of the island. The airport is located outside of Honolulu’s congested airspace and has a 9000 ft runway, making it an ideal spot for pilot training, skydiving and powered hang gliding. Additionally, due to the geography of the island, it is the Oahu’s only possible gliderport. Less than three years after the first delivery, the 100th Pilatus PC-24 has just been handed over to its new owner. The 100th PC-24 is now in use as a business aircraft with its new owner, Jetfly Aviation. This handover marks another milestone in the still young history of the first Swiss business jet: the global fleet has clocked up over 33,500 safe hours in the air so far, of which over 2,375 hours have been accumulated by the fleet leader. We really missed going to the postponed DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase this past November and are looking forward to being there in 2021. BUT... an interim event will be held at the end of the month so that you can still get a taste of sport aviation before spring-time--when we hope other events will finally be ready to do their thing. DeLand's ‘Flyway To Highway’ event is scheduled for January 30th, at the DeLand Municipal Airport from 0900 to 1400, on the ramp at 1000 Flightline Boulevard. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
