AeroSports Update: Progress Report On The Pegasus O-100 Engine

Promising News From Pegasus Power Regarding Their DP-1, O-100 Kit Engine Being Developed For The Experimental Market

The Pegasus O-100 kit engine started off as a Continental O-200 being cut-in-half with the idea of providing a lightweight alternative for experimental aircraft requiring an engine in the 60 horsepower range. Now, we have updates on the progress on this project.

First, what started out to be a cut-in-half O-200 Continental has now progressed to the point of being mostly new fabricated parts based on the O-200 design. By going this route, the engine designer, Pete Plumb has been able to improve performance and reduce weight.

Plumb says he been meeting with foundries and machine shops that are dedicated to high quality and are willing to work with smaller numbers at first and build up to larger production as the company grows. He expects to be ordering the first batch of parts for 100 units in the early part of this year.

He also said, The Marvel-Schebler carb is still working well, and they are moving towards having them make a custom version of the MA-2 just for this engine. Plumb said he still thinks the more proven aircraft components that can be used, the more confidence builders will have in the engine.

Plumb added that production logistics are coming right along, and if everybody does what they say they can do, a preproduction prototype should be running soon. He hopes to have airplanes flying with the Pegasus O-100s installed at EAA AirVenture 2015.
