Turkish Airlines Opts For GE's CF6 Engines For Its Airbus A330 Fleet

Aircraft Purchased As Part Of International Expansion

Turkish Airlines (THY) has selected GE’s CF6-80E1 engines to power its fleet of 15 firm Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Delivery will begin next year. THY has also signed a 12-year OnPoint solutions agreement for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of its new CF6-80E1 engines. The total engine order and OnPoint agreement is valued at more than $1 billion.

"As THY readies for another round of intercontinental expansion, we have chosen aircraft and engines that are proven, reliable and will further enhance the travel experience on Turkish Airlines," said Temel Kotil, Turkish Airlines' CEO.

“Turkish Airline’s selection of CF6-80E1 engines demonstrates the airline’s continued confidence in the performance and reliability of GE’s engines,” said Muhammad Al-Lamadani, senior executive for European sales at GE Aviation. “This order further strengthens our relationship with THY, and we look forward to an even stronger cooperation.”

With a fleet of 200 aircraft, THY is the major airline in Turkey operating routes to Americas, Europe, the Middle East,  Asia and Africa. In 2011, Turkish Airlines carried about 33 million passengers and was named the 2012 best airline in Europe by Skytrax. GE's CF6 engines have been among the most utilized and reliable in the industry. Powering more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft, the engine family has established an unparalleled record of reliability and has compiled more than 375 million flight-hours in service with close to 200 customers worldwide.
