From 2019 (YouTube Version): An Historic Aircraft Solving Modern Challenges

Sitting in the Warbirds area at AirVenture 2019 was a pair of Soviet-era MI-2 helicopters which are being used as testbeds for a lot of new technology at the University of Iowa. The aircraft is used to test cutting-edge avionics, enhanced vision systems, and other innovations. It is designed to allow instrumentation to be changed quickly, letting researchers make adjustments to their experiments and more quickly bring their ideas to fruition. How did that come to happen, and why the MI-2?

New Student Discounts Announced

Representatives of more than forty of the world’s leading electric aircraft developers will contribute their expertise and insight to the 17th Annual Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS). Hosted by the Vertical Flight Society (VFS), a non-profit technical organization dedicated to the advancement of vertical flight, the event will be held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on 22 and 23 July—the weekend prior to the Experimental Aircraft Association’s (EAA) AirVenture 2023. Organized by industry and government stakeholders in the electric aircraft and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sectors, the Electric Aircraft Symposium is the world’s longest-running electric aviation technology conference.

U.S. legacy air-carrier Delta Air Lines has disclosed an order for 12 additional Airbus A220-300 narrow-body jets, thereby bringing the airline’s total, firm A220 orders to 131 aircraft. All told, Delta’s order-book comprises 45 A220-100 and 86 A220-300 five-abreast, single-aisle airliners. Currently, Delta is the world’s largest operator of A220 family aircraft.

Intuitive Machines announced it had successfully conducted a test run of its Nova-C lunar lander. The undertaking occasioned a significant technical achievement and evinced the company’s progress toward the completion of its lunar lander. The complete-spacecraft test run verified the Nova-C lander’s flight software, avionics, liquid oxygen and liquid methane loading, high-pressure helium system performance, propulsion system functionality, and culminated in a hot-firing of the lander’s main engine.

Avflight announced on 13 July 2023 that it had acquired FlightLevel Aviation’s FBO operation on Holland, Michigan’s West Michigan Regional Airport (BIV). The acquisition occasions the 25th addition to Avflight’s global FBO network and the company’s eighth facility in its home state of Michigan.

Pilot Performed A Forced Landing To A School Parking Lot

On June 23, 2023, about 0730 central daylight time, a Piper PA-23-160 airplane, N4307P, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The commercial pilot sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.The pilot was planning on flying the airplane to the Transylvania Community Airport (3NR3), Brevard, North Carolina, to have an annual inspection performed. Prior to the departure at the Ocean Springs Airport (5R2), Ocean Springs, Mississippi, the pilot fueled the airplane for the cross-country flight.
