Twenty-Three Percent Increase In Medical Flights Recorded
The number of medical flights operated by Angel Medflight in April increased 23 percent over just 2013, the company reported Tuesday.
The longest flight was 3,030 miles, from Louisiana to Lima, Peru, with more than 100,000 total miles flown during the month.
A majority of patients transported sustained their injuries from accidents or falls, making post-trauma recovery the biggest reason for necessitating medical transport in the past month. The ages of patients transported ranged from a one-year-old infant to a 98-year-old adult.
Patients who are critically ill or injured may not be able to fly on a commercial airline or travel by ground ambulance. Angel MedFlight offers medically-configured jet aircraft equipped with a stretcher, advanced life support equipment, medications and a specially trained medical flight crew to transport patients all over the United States and the world. The medical jets flew in and out of 36 states last month alone.
The company also flies patients to and from health care facilities around the world. Angel MedFlight has transported patients on five continents, from Mexico to Canada, and from South America to Saudi Arabia. This includes medical flight transports for soldiers, military personnel and veterans, as well as international flights to return patients home for acute and long-term care, and for those who are injured or fall ill while traveling.
A flight coordination team, including registered nurse (RN) case managers explain every detail of the transfers, and provide around the clock availability and support.
