Classic Aircraft Returning To North Texas

Annual Fly-In Set For October 11-12 At Gainesville Municipal Airport

The “Texas Chapter” of the Antique Airplane Association announced it will hold its 57th Annual Fly-In on October 11th and 12th at Gainesville Municipal Airport, TX (KGLE).

“We are excited to continue with our popular annual fly-in” said Fly-In Chairman Joel Meanor. “Our entire chapter works hard each year to provide a fun event for people of all ages. The purpose of the fly-in is to keep these flying classics in the public eye. Everyone enjoys seeing the airplanes return each year.”

The Antique Airplane Association was formed in 1953 for those with an interest in preserving airplanes, to "Keep the Antiques Flying". The Texas Chapter has hundreds of members. “You don’t have to own an airplane or be a pilot to be a member” said Meanor. “You just have to love airplanes and have a desire to get involved.”  The Chapter’s purpose is to provide an opportunity for individuals of all types to enjoy friends and airplanes.

More Pilot Proficiency Programs in 2019. “Based off of previous successful seminars, we are looking forward to delivering more this year” said Meanor. The 2019 speakers includes AOPA Ambassador Pat Brown, and FAASTeam Representative Brandon Ayers. This year’s seminar topics include Weather Challenge, Safety Spotlight, Flying Clubs, and Pilot Proficiency.

Rare Birds attend. The event draws in rarely seen aircraft. For example this year is a T-37 “Tweet” from Service Air Corps attending to honor veterans, as well as a full scale Sopwith 1½ Strutter replica by Kip Aero, for the WW I aircraft enthusiasts.

Along with unique airplanes and seminars, the 57th Annual TX AAA Fly-In will include the Cheri King Band entertaining Friday evening. On Saturday; a pancake breakfast, exhibitors, hamburger lunch, aircraft judging, airplane parts sales, fuel coupon give-a-ways and more.

“These airplanes are a significant part of our heritage” said Joel. “Continuing to serve the aviation community by drawing these airplanes in will continue to make a difference for the General Aviation community and generations to come.”
