TCM to Supply Engines for its Legend Cub
American Legend Aircraft Company
announced today that it has signed a long-term purchase agreement
with engine supplier Teledyne-Continental Motors (TCM) of Mobile,
Alabama. Legend will use the company’s piston engines in its
all-new Legend Cub Light-Sport Aircraft design.
American Legend Aircraft Company has conducted a successful
flight test program of the Legend Cub powered by a
Teledyne-Continental Motors O-200 reciprocating engine. The
performance of the aircraft’s O-200 engine was superb
according to Legend test pilots. Configured with a
Teledyne-Continental Motors O-200 piston engine, the Legend Cub
features an electric starter, improved performance over other Cub
models, and improved durability in operation.
“We’re delighted to provide the engine for the
Legend Cub,” said Chip McClellan of TCM. “This
partnership solidifies our position as a leader in the fast growing
light-sport aircraft market. The Legend Cub is an exciting new
airplane that registers with most pilots as an aircraft born to fly
with a Continental engine.”
The O-200 is a proven member of Continental’s family of
horizontally-opposed piston engines. It features a basic weight of
170 lbs. Its four 50-cubic-inch cylinders deliver 90-horsepower at
2,475 RPM, and 100-horsepower at 2,750 RPM. This engine has been
successfully used on a wide variety of light aircraft including the
Cessna 150 and Piper PA-18-90 (and L-18B) Super Cub.
“We are very excited about the capabilities of the O-200
engine and its application on the Legend Cub and Legend
FloatCub,” said Tim Elliott, President of American Legend
Aircraft Company. “The specifications of the O-200,
Continental’s vast expertise, and its leadership in the
piston engine market make it an ideal solution for Legend
customers.”
Teledyne Continental Motors, Inc., a division of Teledyne
Technologies, is a leading provider of aircraft piston engines,
ignition systems, spare parts and aviation batteries for the
General Aviation industry. Continental has powered many of the
industry’s benchmark aircraft for almost 70 years.

The Legend Cub is a two-place, single piston-engine powered
aircraft designed to meet Light-Sport Aircraft category
certification requirements. It will have an empty weight of 850
lbs. The Legend Cub is propelled by a 100-horsepower Continental
O-200 engine with electric start. With the optional floats, the
aircraft will be capable of water takeoffs and landings. The Legend
Cub is bringing back the enjoyment and economics of general
aviation aircraft for today’s flying enthusiast.
