WSI Broadens Global Datalink Weather Partnership With Avidyne

New International Wx Data Available For MLB700 And MLX770 Displays

WSI Corporation confirmed Thursday at AOPA Expo it had been selected to provide enhanced international weather content for Avidyne's MLB700 and MLX770 datalink receivers.

For the MLB700 broadcast datalink receiver that uses the SIRIUS satellite network in the continental United States, WSI will be adding Canadian and Bahamian radar data to the satellite feed. For the MLX770, Global METARs, TAFs, Lightning, Winds and Temperatures aloft data will be accessible, in addition to enhanced weather radar coverage on a regional basis, which now includes Europe and Australia.

"Because of our many years experience providing weather decision-making products to the commercial airlines, WSI is ideally positioned to provide global weather to Avidyne customers via the MLX770," said Mark D. Miller, Vice President and General Manager of WSI's Aviation Business. "Through this partnership with Avidyne, international aircraft operators can now enjoy the safety and operational benefits of WSI aviation weather that was previously available only in North America, while domestic operators using the MLB700 or AV-300/350 series SIRIUS receivers will now have the added benefit of weather data for Canada and the Bahamas."

"Like us, WSI is focused on providing best-in-class value to general aviation pilots," said Dan Schwinn, President at Avidyne. "Our respective products are highly synergistic and critical to safe and efficient flight operations, so it makes perfect sense for us to extend our partnership to provide WSI's industry-leading InFlight weather information for operators worldwide through our new MLX770, just as we have done domestically with our MLB700.

WSI is also developing version 5.1 of its WSI InFlight display software, which will integrate the Avidyne MLX770 service. World-wide geography, product selection and communications channel management will be incorporated in this software release. The new InFlight client will be able to manage and depict weather information from both the WSI AV-300/AV-350 broadcast receivers and Avidyne's MLX770 Iridium-based receiver.

"We provide a consistent experience for customers, regardless of the communications link being used." stated Paul Devlin, Product Manager for WSI InFlight. "As an example, flight crew can now seamlessly switch from the WSI InFlight SIRIUS link when over the US to the MLX770 as they travel to Europe."

WSI will be demonstrating its suite of InFlight and pre-flight briefing solutions in booth 737 at the AOPA Expo in San Jose, CA from November 6-8. Avidyne will be exhibiting in booth 832.
