With Expo Ahead, Sim Folks Go Recruiting for Fresh Faces
The Flight Simulation Association capped a successful week of acquiring new acolytes at Sun 'n Fun 2024, thanks to a bevy of demonstrations that showed the IRL pilots just how far the industry's come.
Flight simulation is better than ever, with improved graphics, handling, and physics with each update and hardware release. For those who moved on from the digital flight industry in favor of flying for real, it's amazing to see the state of the art in 2024. Aircraft models have been the recipients of thousands of hours of obsessive, intense attention, bringing even the most complex airliners into the realm of believability. At the Future 'n Flight Plaza, the Flight Simulation Association brought out a full roster of all the greats, like Microsoft Flight Sim, X-Plane, and DCS with varying levels of cockpit hardware. Full-motion, virtual reality, and more affordable desktop units show just how deep the flight sim addiction could go - and how realistic its training can be.
“We showed pilots and SUN ‘n FUN attendees that home flight simulation is so much more than a game,” said Rick Miller, owner of FlyInside and SUN ‘n FUN exhibitor. “You can fight, fly, and learn, custom tailored to your wants and needs. A new age of flight simulation is here. Now!”
“Flight Simulation Association exists to help share the power of home flight simulation to real-world aviators, and to attract new people to the simulation community,” added co-founder Evan Reiter, who helped coordinate the Flight Sim Experience Center at SUN ‘n FUN. “Thanks to the support of SUN ‘n FUN and more than 25 of our members who came out to volunteer with us in Florida, we did just that."
