Flooding Forces Cancellation Of MO Salute To Veterans Airshow

Jefferson City Airport Evacuated As Missouri River Crests

Flooding on the Missouri River has forced organizers to cancel the Salute to Veterans Air Show planned for Memorial Day weekend at Jefferson City Memorial airport (KJEF) in Missouri.

"Due to extreme flooding in the Jefferson City area, the airport has been evacuated due to flood waters cresting more than 2 feet above the levees," the organizers said in a message posted on the airshow website and to Facebook. "We hope you will still celebrate Memorial Day with us in spirit, and remember those who have helped ensure our freedom."

The cancellation affects both the Saturday and Sunday airshows, though other events associated with the Memorial Day celebration, including the parade and Honored Guests Banquet, will proceed as planned. However, the parade may still be cancelled if the flooding continues to worsen.
