Honor Flight Austin To Take 34 Veterans To Washington D.C.

Flight To Depart On Friday With WWII, Korea And Vietnam Vets On Board

On Friday, Honor Flight Austin will depart Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for a special flight to Washington D.C. The flight will transport 34 Austin-area World War II, Korean and Vietnam War veterans to the nation’s capital to visit and experience the memorials built in their honor. This is the 46th Austin Honor Flight to date, and the sixth this year.

The veterans will arrive in ticketing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) around 10 a.m. The veterans, guardians and staff assembled for a procession, from Gate 5 to Gate 12 around 11:15 a.m. The procession will be led by the TSA Honor Guard and Austin Police Department Bagpipe and Drum Corps. Honor Flight Austin will depart Austin-Bergstrom at 12:05 p.m., and will be arriving at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) at 4:15 p.m. The veterans will return Saturday, Sept. 23, departing from Reagan at 3:45 p.m. and arriving at AUS at 6:05 p.m., all times local.

A welcome home greeting will be held at about 6:45 p.m. upstairs in west ticketing. The veterans are scheduled to arrive at 6:30 p.m.

The flight is operated by Southwest Airlines. The Hilton Austin Airport is a corporate sponsor of Honor Flight Austin. Lunch and refreshments will be provided to veterans courtesy of ThunderCloud Subs. Trips on Honor Flight are made possible at no cost to the veterans through donations.

Honor Flight Austin is a non-profit organization created to honor veterans by transporting them to visit and reflect at their war memorials. Honor Flight Austin serves veterans residing within Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Gillespie, Gonzales, Hays, Lee, Llano, Milam, Travis and Williamson Counties.
