DJI Introduces Mavic 3 Pro Cinematic Drone

New DJI Model Features Triple Camera System

Shenzhen DJI Sciences and Technologies Ltd.—more widely known as DJI -- has introduced its new Mavic 3 Pro flagship drone.

The contraption features a triple camera system housing Mavic’s renowned Hasselblad camera and two tele cameras; a 43-minute maximum flight duration; DJI’s signature Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing; and 15-kilometer HD Video Transmission..

DJI creative director Ferdinand Wolf stated: “At DJI we are constantly evolving our products to help capture fascinating scenery and explore visual storytelling through both video and stills. The Mavic 3 Pro’s triple camera combination gives users the ability to switch between shot composition with just one tap, allowing content creators a wider variety of shots in less time than ever before. We can’t wait to see the end result of how people use the drone to alter the viewers' perception of space and distance.”

The Mavic 3 Pro’s triple camera system features lens focal lengths of 24-mm, 70-mm, and 166-mm—a complement of perspectives contemporaneously conducive to multi-scenario capabilities and the actualization of users’ respective creative visions.

Inheriting the 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera of the Mavic 3 Series, DJI’s Mavic 3 Pro is optimized for high-standard professional creation. The camera supports shooting 12-bit RAW photos with a native dynamic range of up to 12.8 stops—a capability that facilitates superbly detailed images. Moreover, the Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS)—a feature indigenous to the Mavic 3 Pro’s Hasselblad camera—accurately captures the full spectrum of colors perceptible to the human eye, thereby allowing users to confidently pursue dazzling shots in the absence of post-production and complex color presets.

Filmmakers are apt to be impressed with the Mavic 3 Pro’s impressive set of professional video specifications such as image capture at up to 5.1K at 50-frames-per-second (fps) or DCI 4K at 120-fps. What’s more, the Mavic 3 Pro’s 10-bit D-Log M color mode supports recording of up to one-billion colors. Even in high-contrast scenarios the likes of sunrises and sunsets, the drone’s trio of camaras delivers natural color gradations with delicate details for full-spectrum visual experiences. In addition, D-Log M mode simplifies color-grading and streamlines post-production processes without forfeiting quality or image clarity.

All three of the Mavic 3 Pro’s cameras support Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 LT encoding. The model also features a built-in 1TB SSD2 and a 10Gbps lightspeed data cable.

The Mavic 3 Pro’s medium tele camera (70mm format equivalent) sports a 1/1.3" CMOS sensor, 3x optical zoom, is capable of 48MP/12MP photos, 4K/60-fps video, and supports the new D-log M. The camera compresses depth of field and depth of focus to highlight the shot’s subject and impart a unique sense of depth and space. Creators looking to wow viewers with stunning Hyperlapse sequences will find the Mavic 3 Pro’s medium tele camara ideally suited to filming such.

The Mavic 3 Pro features an enhanced iteration of the Mavic 3’s tele camera. The upgraded unit delivers increased resolution, aperture (from f4.4 to f3.4), video frame rate, and supports shooting 4K/60-fps video with 7x optical zoom and 12MP photos. As the camera’s hybrid zoom feature is capable of 28x magnification, little need exists to risk flying the vehicle in close proximity to hazards such as snow-capped mountains and tall buildings. Nature documentarians can preclude disturbing animals and disrupting their natural behaviors by filming with outstanding color and resolution over considerable distances.

The Mavic 3 Pro’s 43-minute inter-charge endurance affords creators additional time to consider and compose shots. Additional artistic freedom is facilitated by the drone’s Omnidirectional Sensing and APAS 5.0—an architecture comprising eight wide-angle vision sensors working seamlessly with a high-performance vision computing engine to precisely sense obstacles in all directions and plan safe flight routes around such.

The Mavic 3 Pro’s DJI O3+ transmission system presents a stable, clear camera view and transmits a 1080p/60-fps HD live feed at distances of up to 15-kilometers. Transmission distance is a proxy for signal strength, ergo, the Mavic 3 Pro should always be flown within its pilot’s line of sight.

Additional features such as Waypoint Flight, Cruise Control, and Advanced RTH elevate the automated flight experience.

Waypoint Flight automatically plans a flight route based on the user's preset waypoints and is capable of precisely repeating routes.

Cruise Control allows the Mavic 3 Pro to be flown in any direction without the need to continuously apply control pressure. Cruise control facilitates smoother camera movement during long-distance manually flown filming sequences.

Advanced RTH automatically determines a safe and efficient flight route back to the drone’s home point, bypassing obstacles on the RTH path.

Salty aerial storytelling pros and green newcomers alike will derive benefit from the Mavic 3 Pro’s suite of intelligent modes, which includes:

FocusTrack: The Mavic 3 Pro’s Hasselblad camera and the medium tele camera support FocusTrack, which includes ActiveTrack 5.0, Spotlight, and Point of Interest, each of which, after its own fashion, enables stable tracking shots in multiple directions.

MasterShots: Enabled with a single tap, MasterShots command the Mavic 3 Pro to automatically shoot, edit, and add soundtracks to cinematic footage.

QuickShots: Enable the Mavic 3 Pro to perform diverse camera movements such as Dronie, Rocket, Circle, and Helix.

Panorama: Facilitates composition of a 100MP lossless panorama photo to capture a more extensive and magnificent landscape.

Once the Mavic 3 Pro drone returns to ground, the device’s High-Speed QuickTransfer option allows rapid image and video downloads direct from the drone to a mobile phone over Wi-Fi 6 at speeds of up to 80 MB per second.

DJI’s Mavic 3 Pro is available through the DJI website and authorized retail partners. Shipping of the model is slated to commence in May 2023.

DJI’s Mavic 3 Pro (DJI RC) retails for $2,199. The Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC) is offered for $2,999. The Mavic 3 Pro Fly More Combo (DJI RC Pro) goes for $3,889. Finally, the Mavic 3 Pro Cine Premium Combo can be had for $4,799.

The Mavic 3 Pro, Mavic 3 Classic, and Mavic 3 are compatible with the latest DJI Goggles Integra, DJI Goggles 2, and DJI RC Motion 2. To enhance the flying experience, two new goggles and RC Motion Controller combos have been created, namely the DJI Goggles 2 Motion Combo and DJI Goggles Integra Motion Combo.
