Aero-TV: AML's ‘Smart Seat’ – Avoiding Old Hazards Via Brilliant Innovation

Really Smart Ideas Can Help Eliminate Some Of Aviation's Most Persistent Safety Issues

While attending the NBAA 2014 Convention, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, had already seen a number of freshly introduced products, and now he was looking for one of those quiet little projects that sneaks up on you.

He stopped to talk with Mark Lange, the CEO of AML Incorporated, and found exactly what he was looking for.

In this video, Lange introduces Jim, and a large portion of the aviation community, to a product being developed that is truly unique. AML has come up with a system for monitoring pilot fatigue and performance while in flight. Developed from other technologies, the purpose of this system is to provide the pilots with updates about their wellbeing and what they are doing with the aircraft.

As the video progresses, Lange explains and demonstrates how the pilot is monitored and how this translates into a warning system to advise the pilot their performance may be impaired. The concept behind their system has already seen use in the trucking industry, and its adaptation to aircraft is well underway. Watch this video…it is not science fiction.
