Pilots And Cropdusters Get The Big Eye

FBI Thinks Al Qaeda May Use GA Aircraft In New Wave Of Assaults

In a massive hunt for terrorists hidden in the midst of general aviation pilots, the FBI has questioned more than 3000 flyers over the past year and investigated about 11,000 agricultural aircraft.

They're reportedly looking for cropdusting aircraft that could be used to spray biological or chemical weapons. Documents released to the commission investigating the 9/11 attacks show there have been no arrest in this year-long investigation. But this probe has sparked others.

Crop dusting aircraft have been grounded two times since the 9/11 attacks. The government's interviews with al Qaeda suspects, along with documents found by allied troops in Afghanistan, tell the Justice Department that terror groups have plans to use agricultural aircraft to spread deadly aerosols.

"There is without a doubt in my mind a very serious level of activity in terrorism, which concerns me greatly," Ashcroft said at the Justice Department.
