Brooke Owens Fellowship Program Now Accepting Applications

Honors The Memory Of Space Industry Pioneer And Pilot

The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program is now accepting applications for its highly-competitive internship and mentorship program. The program is designed to honor the memory of beloved space industry pioneer and accomplished pilot Brooke Owens (1980 – 2016), by inspiring and training exceptional college-aged women seeking a career in aviation or space exploration.

The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program offers paid internships at leading aviation and space companies and organizations for passionate, exceptional women seeking their undergraduate degree.

The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program is designed to serve both as an inspiration and as a career boost to capable young women who, like Brooke, aspire to explore our sky and stars, to shake up the aerospace industry, and to help their fellow men and women here on planet Earth.

The Brooke Owens Fellowship Program was founded by three friends of Brooke--Lori Garver, Cassie Kloberdanz Lee, and William Pomerantz, each of whom also work in the aerospace industry. The program was grown and nurtured, with input, assistance, guidance, and encouragement from countless more whose lives were improved by knowing Brooke. The program is run by a network of volunteer coordinators and mentors, and exists under the auspices of The Future Space Leaders Foundation,  a tax-exempt 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the career development of young space and satellite industry professionals.

Candidates will need to a complete only a single application in order to be considered for positions at all of the placement companies, although interview questions will vary depending on the applicant and the potential host matches.

In addition to standard internship application material (transcript, résumé, letters of recommendation), applicants should be prepared to submit a work sample relevant to their own academic discipline and passion. This sample could take any of a wide variety of forms: a video of a rocket motor test, a recording of an original song or poem, a white paper on a matter of aerospace policy, or whatever else you think best captures your personality and your ambitions. The Selection Committee recognizes that students from different demographics show their talents in different ways, so this is really your opportunity to show off your proudest accomplishments and your most valued self.

Applicants are offered the opportunity to rank their preference among the host Internship host institutions—although applicant rankings are only one of many factors considered during matching.

All completed applications are reviewed by the Brooke Owens Fellowship Selection Committee, with the most highly qualified candidates being selected for telephone interviews with Selection Committee members.

Following this process, finalists are selected and presented to the host institutions for matching with specific opportunities.
