FAI Provides Details For International Drone Conference And Expo 2019

Event To Be Held In Lausanne, Switzerland September 13-15

FAI has announced that its International Drones Conference and Expo 2019, due to take place in Lausanne, Switzerland September 13 to 15 will include a conference exclusively for professionals, and a new symposium open to the public.

The 2019 FAI/DIAS International Drone & Digital Aviation Conference will be held September 13. The professional event "Delivering the Future: Digital Aviation Technologies to Enable Sustainable & Scalable Solutions", jointly organized with DIAS (Drone Industry Association Switzerland), will be for drone experts from academia, business, regulatory and investment communities who will present and discuss the key developments, opportunities and challenges of the disruptive drone and digital aviation industry. This year the event, for professionals only, will be compacted into one day.

Confirmed keynote speakers include Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport, who will present her work on "Urban air mobility above our heads - Europe's progress to make it safe, secure, quiet and clean and Prof Martin Vetterli, EPFL, who will explain why the "Next Gen doesn't happen by accident - schools and universities fostering breakthroughs”. John Langford, President and CEO of Aurora Flight Science, will share their progress and vision on “Proving the concept: the first flight of the PAV (Passenger Air Vehicle)”.

The public 2019 FAI/EPFL International Drones Symposium will include introductory presentations and debates by drone experts in English. The objective of the forum is to acquaint the audience with the key topics surrounding drone innovation, sports and safety. The day is organised in collaboration with EPFL, the renowned Swiss Federal Institute of Technology home to the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research in robotics (NCCR) based in Lausanne.

As drones of all types are becoming increasingly affordable, accessible and regularly mentioned in the media, the symposium is an opportunity for the general public to discover and learn about the latest developments and applications of this fast-moving technology. Presentations will focus on drone innovation (from micro to large flying robots), drone e-sports and drone simulators. Progress concerning the efficient integration of drones into the airspace, future urban air mobility services (i.e. taxi drones) and the role of the regulator and enforcement agencies in upholding public safety, privacy and security will be debated. This new free event will take place Saturday, September 14.

The start of the registration process and the enrolment fees will soon be made public.

Besides the Professional and Public Events, the Expo which runs for the three days will give the opportunity for the public to discover new drone products and watch demo flights.

This year's event will be part of the EPFL Open House, part of the EPFL’s 50th birthday celebrations, at which 30,000 visitors are anticipated.

A world-class, drone-racing contest, the EPFL Drone Racing Cup 2019 (part of the FAI Drone Racing World Cup series 2019), will take place concurrently to the event, with its finals being held on Sunday September 15.
