San Antonio, TX Spends More Than $300,000 To Block Chick-Fil-A From Its Airport

Says Company's Anti-LGBTQ Positions Not Compatible With The City

The City of San Antonio, TX has spent more than $300,000 to keep Chick-Fil-A from opening a restaurant in the city-owned airport, citing a "legacy of anti-LGBTQ behavior" on the part of the company.

Television station KENS reports that the amount is for legal fees stemming from two lawsuits and a federal investigation. There are still outstanding invoices connected with the effort.

The San Antonio case prompted the Texas legislature to pass and Governor Greg Abbott to sign a "Save Chick-Fil-A" bill in June.

"The bill as filed ensures religious beliefs are protected from discrimination. It's about the First Amendment and freedom of speech, freedom of religion — those uniquely American rights," bill author state Sen. Bryan Hughes said.
