The loss of Germanwings Flight 9525 due to what seems to be confirmed as case of the First Officer being alone in the cockpit, which facilitated his deliberately crashing the airplane, has already caused changes in the way some other European air carriers are managing cockpit disciplines.

Norwegian Air Shuttle has decided to change its cockpit procedures so that two crew members always are present in the cockpit. There’s no getting around it, people are concerned about the issue of privacy when it comes to UAV operation. A bill introduced in the Maine legislature would make it a crime to fly a UAV over someone's property without their express permission. At a City Council meeting earlier this week more than 100 people attended to express their views for and against the continuation of aircraft operation at Santa Monica Airport. The city Council is proposing fees and operational restrictions that would effectively make it impossible for aircraft operations to continue on the airport. NBAA Western Regional Representative Stacy Howard attended the meeting, and told city officials that Santa Monica has “obligations, derived from specific agreements with the federal government as well as general applicable federal law…which mean that some of the commission’s proposals simply cannot be implemented by the city.” All this... and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
