FedEx Is First Recipient of Cessna SkyCourier

Textron Aviation Delivers First SkyCourier Off The Production Line to FedEx

Earlier today, on 9 May 2022, Textron Aviation celebrated the delivery of its first Cessna SkyCourier to Federal Express (FedEx). The SkyCourier is a high-wing twin-engine utility turbo-prop aircraft, and is expected to be the first of 50 such aircraft for which FedEx will take delivery.

Earlier in March 2022, Textron aviation received FAA certification for this new aircraft that was design and manufactured by them.

This new aircraft is available in various configurations; commuter, freight, or for a specific mission. We’re told that the commuter configuration has separate doors for crew and passengers, and sports single-point pressure refueling capability for quick leg-turns.

The freight configuration has a flat floor cabin, large access door, can hold up to 3ea LD3 shipping containers, and can support aa payload of 6,000 lbs.The SkyCourier comes with Garmin G1000 NXi in the flight deck, promises a maximum cruise speed of 200 kts and 900 nm maximum range.

It took its first flight in May 2020, powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65 engines and sports fixed landing gear. With a wingspan of just over 72ft, length a tad over 55ft, 3660ft takeoff distance, and service ceiling of 25,000ft its relatively comparable to India’s HAL-228 or the Viking DHC-6 Twin Otter
