Mother Nature Forces 'Fight To The Finish' Flyover Rescheduling For Sunday

Flyover Rescheduled For Sunday, May 10 At 2 P.M.

What should have been a stirring WWII commemorative flyover has been rescheduled due to inclement weather conditions forecasted and expected Friday and Saturday May 8th and 9th.

Clear weather and safe flying conditions are paramount for those participating in the flight and for the enjoyment of those that want to watch the flyover. Sunday, May 10th's forecast looks most promising for great conditions and the opportunity to view and enjoy the event. The flyover will begin at 2 pm and the flight path will remain unchanged.

The fleet will depart Ellington Airport from Signature Flight Support located at 11811 N. Brantley Avenue, Building 500. They will fly a 120-mile flight plan over the skies of the Greater Houston area. This historic flight will last just over one hour, landing back at Ellington Airport at approximately 3:15 p.m.

The Lone Star Flight Museum and its partners have created a WWII warbird air review that will fly over the entire city for Houstonians to enjoy from the safety of their own homes. The Fight to the Finish Flyover -- which was originally scheduled for Friday, May 8, to honor those who served and sacrificed during WWII, and to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day -- has been rescheduled to Sunday, May 10, starting at 2 p.m. The Lone Star Flight Museum and its supporting partners will fly rare and historic warbirds over the city of Houston in an epic aviation event called the Fight to the Finish Flyover.

This unprecedented flyover will begin at 2 p.m. and roar over Pasadena, the San Jacinto Monument, University of Houston-Main Campus, Downtown Houston, Memorial Park, Acres Homes, Houston National Cemetery, Cypress, Cinco Ranch, Mission Bend, the Energy Corridor, West University Place, Bellaire, Missouri City, Brookside Village, Pearland, Friendswood, Dickinson, Kemah and other communities underneath the flight path. The flight will end back at Ellington Airport at approximately 3:15 p.m.

While it is the mission of the museum to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, the Lone Star Flight Museum and its partners felt compelled to lift the spirits of the Houston community while we fight COVID-19. The program name, Fight to the Finish, was originally a nod to the efforts of those that fought in World War II, but today has even more significance that anyone could have imagined.
