AD: The Boeing Company Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2013-02-51

PRODUCT: All The Boeing Company Model 787-8 airplanes.
SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2013-02-51
ACTION: Final Rule, Request for Comments

SUMMARY:  This emergency AD was sent previously to all known U.S. owners and operators of these airplanes. This AD requires modification of the battery system, or other actions.

This AD was prompted by recent incidents involving lithium ion battery failures that resulted in release of flammable electrolytes, heat damage, and smoke. We are issuing this AD to correct damage to critical systems and structures, and the potential for fire in the electrical compartment.

DATES: This AD is effective February 22, 2013 to all persons except those persons to whom it was made immediately effective by Emergency AD 2013-02-51, issued on January 16, 2013, which contained the requirements of this amendment. Comments must be received by April 8, 2013.
