Gen Moseley Confirmed As USAF Chief Of Staff

New Top Dog Takes Office After Senate Confirmation

In its last act before adjourning for the 4th of July holiday recess, the United States Senate confirmed US Air Force Chief of Staff T. Michael Moseley Friday. The Chief of Staff is the top officer ion the Air Force and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Gen. Moseley's confirmation was never expected to be controversial. He has been the Vice Chief of Staff and has pledged to continue to work on current Air Force priorities, including improving joint operations and updating some of the service's most over-the-hill equipment. He explained these priorities met with the Senate Armed Services Committee on June 29th, and those Senators quickly approved him and forwarded their recommendation to the full Senate.

General Moseley boasts over 2,800 hours in Air Force jets. He was commander of the F-15 Division of the USAF Fighter Weapons School at Nellis AFB, and has also commanded the 33rd Operations Group at Eglin AFB, and the 57th Wing at Nellis, described as "the Air Force's largest, most diverse flying wing."  He has flown the T-37, T-38, AT-38 and F-15A, -B, -C, and -D. A highlight in early his career, according to his USAF bio, was a stint as a spin test pilot on the T-37.

General Moseley is a Texas Aggie who has previously commanded the air component of the Central Command and as a combat joint/combined air component commander. He's also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Along with his many military decorations from the US and friendly foreign nations, in 2003 General Moseley received the Air Force Association's highest honor given to a military member in the field of national security, the H. H. Arnold Award.
