Embraer Releases 2023 Third-Quarter Numbers

Thirty-Percent Increase in Aircraft Deliveries Noted

Embraer delivered 43 jets in 2023’s third-quarter, an increase of thirty-percent compared to 2022’s third-quarter, during which 33 aircraft were delivered. Commercial Aviation has shown robust delivery growth, soaring from ten to 15 aircraft, a fifty-percent increase compared to the same period in 2022. For Executive Aviation, there was also an increase; 28 jets delivered (19 light and 9 medium) representing a 22-percent increase compared to 2022's third-quarter.

All told, Embraer has delivered a total of 105 aircraft in 2023 (39 commercial aircraft and 66 executive jets), a 33-percent increase compared to the same period in 2022, during which 79 jets (27 commercial aircraft and 52 executive jets) were delivered up to the third quarter. For the second quarter in a row, Embraer experienced double-digit delivery growth; in 2023’s second-quarter, the company's deliveries grew by 47-percent, compared to the same period in 2022.

Embraer’s firm order backlog ended 2023’s third-quarter at $17.8-billion, an increase of $500-million over the year’s second-quarter. The cited volume represents the apogee of the company’s backlog over the last year.

Between 2023’s second- and third-quarter, Embraer’s Commercial Aviation backlog rose from $8-billion to $8.6-billion, with 42 aircraft sold up to September.

SkyWest ordered 19 new E175 jets for operation in the United Airlines network, adding to the 90 E175 jets the air-carrier is already operating under the United Express banner. Deliveries of subject aircraft are slated to commence in 2024’s fourth-quarter. The deal is part of Embraer’s 2023 third-quarter backlog.

Another important third-quarter 2023 deal was made with Luxair. The Luxembourg-based airline ordered four E195-E2s, including two purchase options and three purchase rights for additional E2 jets. The deal also included conversion rights for the E190-E2, if requested by Luxair. The first deliveries under the deal are slated for 2025’s fourth-quarter.

Air Peace, West Africa's largest airline, placed a firm order in 2023’s third-quarter for five Embraer E175 jets. Deliveries of the 88-seat jets will commence in 2024.

Binter Canarias S.A., flag carrier of the Spanish autonomous community of the Canary Islands, placed a third-quarter 2023 firm order for six Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The deal, which was announced in June 2023 and included in Embraer's third-quarter 2023 backlog, will bring Binter’s E2 fleet to 16 aircraft.

American Airlines recently signed and announced a firm order for four new E175s, which will be included in Embraer’s 2023 fourth-quarter backlog. The aircraft will be operated by American’s wholly owned subsidiary Envoy Air, and grow the E-Jet fleet of such to over 150 airframes. Deliveries of all four E175s are to occur in 2024’s fourth-quarter.

Embraer Executive Aviation posted a strong backlog of $4.3 billion. The division’s 1.5:1 book-to-bill underscores the high-volume of sales and deliveries of Embraer business aircraft.

Embraer’s Executive Aviation division has enjoyed sustained demand and excellent sales momentum across its entire product portfolio, with strong customer acceptance in both the retail and fleet markets. At NBAA-BACE 2023, Embraer announced the Phenom 100EX, the latest evolution of the company’s successful Phenom series. The new model offers buyers superior cabin comfort, operational versatility, and safety enhancing, pilot-centric avionics—to include the Phenom family’s first autothrottle system. In August 2023, Embraer’s Phenom 300 series earned the distinction of being the most-flown business jet in the United States, with the family surpassing two-million flight-hours.

Embraer announced in October 2023 that it has successfully tested the Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 on one-hundred-percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The tests, with one engine running on one-hundred-percent SAF, were performed at Embraer’s Melbourne facility and provided significant insight into systems’ performance when utilizing blends up to one-hundred-percent SAF—which was provided by World Fuel.

The Brazilian air-framer announced, also, that Embraer-CAE Training Services (ECTS) will add additional training capacity by dint of the deployment of two new Phenom 300 full-flight simulators. The first simulator is scheduled to enter service in 2024’s first-quarter at CAE London Burgess Hill (U.K.); the second will enter service in 2024’s third-quarter at CAE Las Vegas (U.S.). Additionally, Embraer and FlightSafety International, in October 2023, announced the opening of a new, FAA-approved Praetor full-flight simulator in Orlando, Florida,. Embraer and Flight Safety also launched a fourth Praetor simulator, which will be based in an as of yet undisclosed European location. Training events in the new Praetor simulator are to get underway by the end of 2024.

Embraer’s Services & Support's backlog rose to $2.8-billion during 2023’s third-quarter—the highest backlog volume ever recorded in the business unit. Embraer Services & Support is expected to be among the main drivers of the company’s growth over the coming years.

Embraer signed Pool Program agreements with Marathon Airlines (Greece), Royal Jordanian Airlines (Jordan), Scoot (Singapore), and Sky High (Dominican Republic). The contracts provide exchanges and repair services for a wide range of repairable components. The contracts with Marathon Airlines and Sky High have added to Embraer’s 2023 third-quarter backlog. The Royal Jordanian Airlines and Scoot Pool Program agreements will be included in Embraer’s backlog once all contractual contingencies are cleared.

In addition to the aforementioned Pool Program agreements, Embraer signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SIA Engineering Corporation (SIAEP) to expand Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services for Embraer's E2 jet family in the Asia-Pacific region.

Embraer’s Defense & Security division saw the Portuguese Air Force’s first KC-390 enter service. The aircraft, the first KC-390 to enter service outside Brazil, was delivered in NATO configuration. Embraer will deliver four additional C-390 series aircraft to the Portuguese Air Force.

In addition to Portugal, the militaries of Austria, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands have selected the C-390 Millennium as their new tactical transport aircraft. Negotiations with Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands have not yet been incorporated into Embraer Defense & Security's backlog. The C-390 has also attracted the interest of India and South Korea.
