'Jet Truck' Prompts Calls To Local Authorities About A Plane Crash

'Shockwave' Was Just Being Washed After A Race

The neighbors feared the worst. When they saw flames and white smoke, they thought a plane had gone down in on a farm east of Springfield, MO on Monday.

But it turned out it was just a truck being washed. Not just any truck, mind you, but Shockwave, the jet-powered semi that appears a many air shows around the country.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Shockwave's owner, Deall Darnell, had raced the truck ... which can top out at 376 miles per hour ... on a dirt track the previous weekend. So, the truck needed a bath. Part of the washing process is to fire up the jet engine. Darnell told the paper that he does light the fires occasionally at his home, and it usually means a couple of calls to 911 from the neighbors, but this time "for some reason it brought out a whole army of emergency vehicles."

Darnell said he understands why the neighbors are concerned when he starts up the truck's jet engine. While Shockwave is well known around the country, most don't know it's home is on a farm outside Springfield.
