Corona, CA PD Deploys Unmanned Aerial Systems To Enhance Public Safety

Represents The Culmination Of Over 56 Hours Of Specialized Pilot Training

The Corona Police Department is excited to announce the deployment of its Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) team which went into service February 7, 2019. The UAS team will help enhance the safety and service the department provides the community through leveraging cost-effective technology.

The activation of the team represents the culmination of over 56 hours of specialized pilot training and the development of a robust department policy that reflects our continued commitment to respecting the privacy of the public as well as emphasizing safe operations. UAS

The team consists of seven FAA certified UAS pilots that are capable of supporting an array of both traditional and non-traditional police activities.  These activities include search and rescue, supporting fire operations, aiding in the location and apprehension of fleeing criminals, and any other instance where the safety of the public and our officers require the unique capabilities of the UAS.

“The UAS pilots were chosen from patrol and are highly trained in UAS technology.  The pilots may use the UAS during calls for service if the situation warrants its use and it is approved by a supervisor,” said Sergeant Jason Morris. “As a matter of privacy, the Corona Police Department does not conduct ‘routine patrol’ or ‘surveillance’ flights.  If you see the UAS in operation, we are actively working a police call for service.  We welcome your comments and hope to address any questions or concerns you may have.”
