Solid State Instruments Designed For Homebuilts And Part 103
Aircraft
Belite Aircraft, which recently introduced the its extremely
lightweight solid state avionics, has added a couple of additional
instruments to the line: a dual Cylinder Head Temperature Gauge
(CHT) and a dual Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Gauge. In addition,
the full panel has changed to add a slot for the Patch Flyer Volt
MiniMeter (VMM).
"We've received many requests for additional instrument types,
and the dual CHT / dual EGT are among those that customers want,"
said James Wiebe, CEO of Belite Aircraft. "Also, by changing our
panel layout slightly, we're able to accommodate more
functionality. We think pilots will like the improved layout."
Individual Patch Flyer instruments weigh only 1/2 ounce, and the
panel-mounted full line of instruments, including metal panel,
mounting hardware and connections, weighs substantially less than
one pound. They're designed to easily fit into instrument panels of
homebuilt and ultralight aircraft. Installation is straight-forward
and many of the instruments are also available in small enclosures
which can be carried in the pilot's flight bag and used in whatever
plane they are flying.
The Patch Flyer CHT/EGT Gauge is a high precision device
that provide a quick visual indication of engine temperatures using
a 24 LED column for each parameter. Unlike other Patch Flyer
avionics, this product is a little bigger, at 3.5 x 1.75 inches,
and comes with a mounting bezel. The LEDs use color to alert the
pilot when things start getting hot; the display LEDs switch from
bright yellow to ultra bright amber at high temperatures. It's also
well calibrated and built with engineering precision to deliver
accurate readings. It doesn't have any switches, so it's easy to
use.
