Deadline for Ultralight-To-Sport-Pilot Transition Looms!

EAA urges unregistered UL pilots who want to transition to sport pilots to meet the September 1 deadline

The Experimental Aircraft Association is urging unregistered ultralight pilots wanting to transition to the sport pilot certificate, or considering such a transition, to register as an ultralight pilot with an FAA-recognized ultralight training program by September 1, if they wish to receive credit for their flying experience.

If an ultralight pilot is already registered with EAA, Aero Sports Connection (ASC) and the United States Ultralight Association (USUA), no further registration is necessary. The FAA already recognizes ultralight registration programs from these three organizations. All ultralight pilots registered by September 1 will receive FAA credit for their knowledge and flying experience if and/or when they decide to transition to the new sport pilot certificate.

For complete registration information, go to www.sportpilot.org or www.eaa.org/ultralights. Registration with EAA is free of charge for ultralight pilots who are also current EAA members.

In addition, ultralight instructors who are registered with an FAA-recognized training exemption holder, such as EAA, by September` 1, 2004, can receive credit if they want the opportunity to receive a sport pilot instructor certificate.
