Inaugural Flight of E-Jet Dedicated Freighter
Embraer celebrated the inaugural flight of the E190F, the first E-Jet converted from passenger service to a dedicated freighter, on April 5, 2024, in São José dos Campos, Brazil. This significant milestone marks a pivotal moment for Embraer as it ventures into the cargo transportation sector, catering to the surging global demand fueled by e-commerce.
The E190F, owned by the U.S.-based leasing company Regional One, underwent a comprehensive two-hour test flight, spearheaded by Embraer's skilled team. This initial flight is a part of an extensive series of evaluations aimed at ensuring the aircraft's readiness for operational service. Prior tests have already seen the jet excel in ground pressurization and cargo loading trials.
Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, expressed enthusiasm about the E-Freighter program's progress and its alignment with the company's strategic vision to meet the evolving needs of the global cargo transport market. The E190F and its sibling, the E195F, promise to revolutionize cargo delivery with their enhanced volume capacity—more than 50% greater than their predecessors, triple the range of large cargo turboprops, and up to 30% lower operating costs compared to narrowbody aircraft. Their design allows for a maximum structural payload of up to 14,300 kg, combining under-floor and main deck capacity.
The E190F and E195F are the fruits of the Passenger to Freight Conversion (P2F) program launched in 2022, involving over 40 suppliers and 600 employees who contributed more than half a million hours to the project. Embraer, a leading aerospace company established in 1969, has a rich history of innovation in commercial, executive, defense, and agricultural aviation. As the main exporter of high-value goods in Brazil and a pioneer in the manufacturing of jets up to 150 seats, Embraer continues to shape the future of air travel, now setting its sights on enhancing global cargo transport capabilities.
