That Sport Pilot Gleim In Your Eye

Gleim Offers Sport Pilot Ground School Presentation

We just got email from our friendly salesman at Gleim telling us that the instructional-products company will be conducting a Sport Pilot ground school presentation at Sun-n-Fun.

The 25-minute presentation will be repeated hourly at the Youth Activities Tent, which is both on the map of the show, and right behind the FAA Safety Center. (Tell me they're not going to get tired of doing THAT!)

Gleim says that the presentation will cover four areas:

* Sport Pilot Certificate requirements
* How to study for the FAA Sport Pilot Knowledge Test
* Knowledge transfer presentation of Aeromedical Factors (This appears
to be Gleim speak for, "a sample lesson covering Aeromedical Factors")
* Practice answering 13 actual FAA questions (these are not all the
questions, just a sample set, perhaps based on the Aeromedical lesson)

Of course, it's a sales pitch for Gleim's test-prep books and software, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm using Gleim software myself as I prep for a written test; instructors, and other pilots, recommended it to me, and if their Sport Pilot material is as good as their other material, it'll help a lot of pilots pass their tests --and not incidentally, fly safer.

Something like this is particularly important, as many people who have never flown before are expected to seek Sport Pilot licensing, and of course, they will have no experience of FAA knowledge tests or preparation for this type of test. Some people prefer the books, some the software, and some (like me) use both sometimes. Gleim will sell you individual books or a complete kit.

The FAA is going to have a Sport Pilot test guide out, too. You may be able to download the book from the web, but it will also be sold by ASA (a competitor of Gleim's) -- in September, 2005.

If you have ambitions to other ratings, rather than Sport Pilot, don't feel left out. "Team Gleim" will be exhibiting in booth 037-038 of Building B with their full line of aviation training and test-preparation materials. They may even have their well-known CPA test guides!
