Forms Cooperative Relationship With the International Space
University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the
International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France, have
forged an alliance for the advancement of space studies. In a
Memorandum of Understanding between the universities, the framers
of the program outlined several mutually agreed upon objectives,
including:
- At least five Embry-Riddle graduates will enroll annually in
the Master of Space Science degree program at International Space
University.
- Embry-Riddle will be able to expand its graduate
interdisciplinary curricula.
- When requested, ISU will provide faculty and lecturers for
Embry-Riddle projects.
- ISU will guarantee admission to at least five Embry-Riddle
students for the Summer Session Program.
- At least one Embry-Riddle faculty member per year will be
provided an overseas sabbatical opportunity.
- The universities will collaborate on workshops, seminars,
public education forums, and professional development
programs.
- Each university will promote programs offered by the
other.
"With
these two exceptional institutions joining forces, we are striving
to achieve a new level of international cooperation in the field of
space education," said Randy Johnson, dean of the College of
Aviation at Embry-Riddle’s Prescott (AZ) campus. "It’s
a perfect match for both programs."
The International Space University has as part of its mission
the study and development of outer space for peaceful purposes
through postgraduate education and research.
"This agreement allows us to offer our master’s level
expertise to Embry-Riddle graduates who will have already received
an excellent undergraduate education in space studies," said Walter
Peters, acting dean of the International Space University. "This is
an exciting, mutually beneficial international partnership."
The Memorandum of Understanding will remain in force for five
years and will be automatically renewed for further five-year
periods unless terminated by one of the parties.
