Aircraft Down In Adirondacks

Disappeared Shortly Before Scheduled Landing

It was snowing heavily and very foggy in New York's Franklin County Friday night when 57-year old Paul Grulich and his 49-year old wife Alice, were trying to land their Piper PA-28R-180. They were headed from Virginia to Adirondacks Regional Airport where Paul told controllers he would land at about 8:00 pm EST. They never made the airport.

Sometime between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm, the aircraft disappeared from radar, prompting a search in the snowy night. The search began immediately.

But it wasn't until Saturday morning that the wreckage had been found. At this point, no one is sure why the Piper went down, but officials on the scene speculated that weather could certainly be a factor.
