Cirrus Surge Boosts Northstar

Parts Manufacturer Re-Hiring Laid Off Workers

Duluth parts manufacturer Northstar Aerospace is hiring back some of its laid-off workforce due largely to a surge in orders for Cirrus aircraft.

Minnesota Public Radio is reporting that with Cirrus ramping up production earlier this year, there was naturally a greater demand for parts manufactured by Northstar, so that company was able to star re-hiring workers that were let go when Cirrus suffered a sales slump as the economy declined.

Northstar President and CEO John Eagleton says his company has also started making parts for windmills that generate electricity, an new customer base for them. "We're fortunate to be able to have several new customers that we're making, in some cases, pieces and parts for, and others we're making complete units," he said.

Eagleton says they have rehired about 30 percent of their workers, which accounts for about 20 jobs. He told MPR he expects more to be rehired in the coming months.
