Body Of Romanian Glider Pilot Missing Since August Found

Disappearance Led To The Biggest Missing Person Search In The Country's History

The body of the pilot of a glider who went missing last August has been found in Romania, closing the books on what became that country's largest missing person search.

The Associated Press reports that the body of pilot Mircea Craciun was located by tourists still in the wreckage of the glider on Saturday on the Postavarul Mountain. He had gone missing August 6th, and his disappearance led to the largest missing person search in Romania's history. Some 1,350 rescue workers and 11 aircraft were mobilized for the search, which went on for weeks, according to the report.

Craciun departed from the town of Ghimbav in central Romania, a mountainous region of the country. Authorities said they had searched the area where the wreckage of the glider was found, but had been unable to spot it from the air because of dense foliage on the mountainside.

Craciun was described as an experienced pilot.
