Midwest Express Announces First Destinations

But Date For Resumption Of Service Is Still Unclear

Midwest Express is continuing its path to a return to service from Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport with the announcement of its first destinations. But when the first flights will take to the air is still unclear.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Midwest Express officials announced Wednesday that they will serve Grand Rapids, MI, Omaha, NE and Cincinnati, OH. And while no date for the first flights are firm, Greg Aretakis, president of the new Midwest Express said that the goal is to be back in operation later this year. He said more details will be coming about the schedule in the next month to six weeks.

Aretakis said the cities had been selected after talks with the Milwaukee business community, and the three destinations were mentioned multiple times.

The flights will initially be operated by Elite Airways LLC, based in Maine. The regional carrier flies Bombardier CRJ 200 and CRJ 700 airplanes with between 50 and 70 seats. Elite will provide flight crews and operate the aircraft  for the launch, but eventually, Midwest Express hopes to have its own fleet of airplanes and an air carrier operating certificate from the FAA.

One of the things Midwest Express was known for was the distribution of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies to its passengers, and Aretakis said that tradition will continue. New York Aviation Consultant Robert Mann told the Journal Sentinel that there are some things that "you just don’t fool with because they are well known and expected parts of the brand."
